General Information

A foam tube extrusion (either polyefin or rubber) used to insulate pipes. It stops hot water from losing heat and also prevents condensation from forming on cold pipes. Both these products are “green”, because they conserve energy and are environmentally friendly. Insulating your pipes will reduce the heat loss from hot water pipes and keep water 2 to 4°F hotter than uninsulated pipes.

Polyethylene is sold in semi-slit or self-seal versions at retail and through wholesalers for the commercial channel. The self-seal portion of the market continues to grow because it’s user friendly. Pipe Insulation is an underutilized, but proven technology that saves costs and energy.

Rubber Insulation is sold in a tube or self-seal versions. The majority of retail sales are for self-seal due to ease of use. The tube product is mainly used for commercial applications, where it is slipped on prior to installing the pipe. Rubber insulation is a superior product for outdoor applications as it is inherently better at inhibiting UV rays. Should be used for air conditioning and solar systems that are exposed to the suns rays.
